Friday Night Leftovers

There is a fire in the fireplace, the Olympics are on, the toddler is asleep, and I am waiting for my husband to come home from the airport.

We have received more snow in the last week than the entire winter. The commutes (usually 18 minutes) to work have been lengthy, stressful, and slooowww.

I would like desperately to be really good at a sport. I love playing sports. My sister was really good at many sports. People expected that out of me. They were disappointed.

Haven't watched American Idol at all this season. Keep forgetting and am busy.

Vi has been pretty cranky. She's transitioned into the toddler room at school. She's been fairly resistant, but does have fun doing the activities. Her behavior has been all over the map this week, crying, tantrums, early bedtimes, and being completely famished.

I have a job interview coming up. I've been at the same job for six years. Scary.

Oh my jaw! It's doing really well. In another three months the bone graft will be solidified with the jawbone and I get my $4000 worth of implants put in. So exciting! It's very strange to look in the mirror and see a different you. Even if it is subtly different. Still on a soft chew diet.

Warm Day

How we miss being outside..... Today it was 41 F and it felt warm. We decided to go outside for a little jaunt in the pink car.

We did some crying because we wanted to go:

We did some touching:

and some running....

Disappointed

It is no secret growing up that my very favorite toys were Fisher Price Little People playsets. We had the circus train, the Castle, the downtown Village, and the schoolhouse. Family friends had the barn, the house, the airport, and the garage so I loved to play with those as well. The houseboat was on my list for years, but I never got it (insert sad music here). The sets in the 1970's (gulp, I'm old) had little people with tons of accessories. I don't know if they were expensive, but the Castle is the only one my parents purchased new. The schoolhouse had a working bell, two trays of magnetic letters and numbers that stored inside and you could put on the magnetic roof, a side door, a clock with hands that moved, cut out windows, playground equipment including a swingset and merry go round, desks, and people. The best toy ever.

I know that sometime in the late 1980's the Little People were deemed a choking risk and made larger. That's fine. However, I cannot believe the way the sets were cheapened up. My mum bought V the present day schoolhouse for Christmas at my urging. I'm so disapointed. It looks like a little lunchbox and you can barely fit the two desks and two people that come with it. I am going to write them a letter, seriously.

Happy Valentine's Day

Bad picture, but I CANNOT get a good picture of that child, no matter how hard I try. Anyone have any tips?

Norovirus

I have so many things to post, but instead am writing about my disappointing Valentine's weekend. Wednesday I received the okay from my Oral Surgeon to eat a mushy diet. Thursday morning I woke up dizzy and nauseous. I dragged myself to work. I didn't have much an appetiate, but forced some Boost and dry soft cereal on myself. Friday I had a really early meeting and didn't feel much better. Around 1:00 p.m. I ate a few spoonfuls of beans, chicken salad, and potato salad. When I arrived home around 4:30 P had brough home all sorts of Indian things I could eat and a beautiful flower arrangement for Valentine's Day. I just wanted to lay on the couch. My stomach hurt. Around 6:30 p.m. I announced that I had to vomit and experienced the most terrible vomiting I've ever had in my life. THen my stomach hurt and the diarrhea started. I couldn't stop vomiting. The worst part is that my lower jaw is still full of stitches and my chin is still healing. The vomiting pain was horrendous. Finally at 10:00 p.m. I told P I needed to go to the Urgent Care. Thankfully my neighbor was able to come because V was sleeping and thankfully her son was at his Dad's.

The Urgent Care is just down the road and we were taken right in. When I got back in the room, there was a long wait even though it wasn't that full. I finally got an IV, a shot of Bentyl, Zofran, and Dilaudid for Pain. They were pretty sure it was Norovirus (aka the stomach flu). As a microbiologist, it bugs me to no end that people don't realize that flu is a respiratory illness, but anyway.... They gave me two IV bags of fluid and I just kept dry heaving. THey finally let me home at 3:30 a.m. The bad part was that VI was up the night before starting at 4:30 a.m. and would be up at 7:00 a.m. or so. We promptly went to bed. P got up with V at 7:30 a.m. and I slept until 9:30 a.m. I was very grateful for him. I got up and drank two cups of chicken broth and then took a nap from 11:30 -3:30 p.m. I felt better after that. Drank some chicken broth and juice.

We had arranged a babysitter for Saturday so we go visit the Mummy exhibit at a museum and eat (well, not for me) at a new restaurant. So I was diappointed to say the least. We went to bed at 8:30 p.m. and I slept until 7:30 a.m. when V got up.

I'm terrified of Vi and Daddy getting this. I think V may have had a mild case because she threw up on Wednesday night and had one episode of diarrhea coupled with no appetiate.

I made a quick trip to the store today and I.am.spent.

Happy Valentine's Day to me.

Friday Night Leftovers - Saturday Edition

I am doing much better. Still not allowed to chew. Pureed food becoming old!

My chin is still numb. If I spill food on my face I can't feel it so I go around with food all over my face.

Finally got my hair done today. Went blonder. Like it so far!

Toddler did not nap today. That coupled with the ongoing crankiness, whining, tantrums and crying fits made for a horrendously long day.

Garbage disposal was broken by our cleaning lady and dishwasher drains through it. Thus no dishwasher all week. Washing dishes by hand (wow, what a concept) is awful and time consuming.

LOST Season Premier was on this week. It is my favorite show of all time and watching it was like visiting an old friend.

When you can't chew, I highly recommend against watching the Food Network. It will make you salivate, and eventually drool on yourself.

What is up with this "Cash for Gold" or "Cash 4 Gold" stuff everywhere? Are these rip-off scams?

Want to rearrange the living room. Have the winter blahs. Husband won't help me. Says we have too much other stuff to do. Bah humbug.

Found toddler adorable Valentine's Outfit at resale shop. Adorable, especially on clearance for only $2.

Update 1 Me

My husband came home and said "Why are you so tired, you were home all day"? I ran through what I did I day:

5:30 a.m. woke up, sipped water, read news sites
7:30 a.m. helped wake up V, get her dressed (no small feat), and get her breakfast
8:00 a.m. - 900 a.m. - got dressed, made mashed potatoes and a smoothie, drank them. Husband left and took V to school
9:30 a.m. - got my mom packed up to leave, warmed up my vehicle which my husband left outside!! CLeaned my teeth with antibiotic mouthwash.
10:00 a.m. - went with my mother to grocery store. It hurt my chin to push the cart. Bought milk, bananas, and soy milk.
11:00 a.m. - saw my mother off
11:30 a.m. - drove to Coney Island to buy Greek Chicken Lemon RIce soup
12:00 p.m. - attempted to puree soup to drink. Blender dirty. Started to cry and cuss out life in general.
12:30 p.m. - drank soup and ate a little soft serve ice cream. Choked down antibiotic
1:15 p.m. - got the shakes so badly that I put on P's winter coat and two blankets
attempted to light fireplace to increase warmth but couldn't get off the child safety lock. Mentally cussed out life. Choked down reflux med early because I was having reflux.
2:00 p.m. - watched HGTV and surfed the web
3:15 p.m. - got sleepy
3:45 p.m. - realized I had to leave to pick up V if I was able. Became starving! Ate more of the mashed potatoes I made earlier and drank some Diet Coke.
4:00 p.m. - ran into Kroger and brough refried beans, Diet soda, tofu, tomato sauce, salsa, and some food for Vi
4:30 p.m. - picked up Vi. Ignored stares from other parents. (IF YOU WANT TO KNOW, ASK!) Wrangled Vi into coat as she tried to lay on the floor. Hurt my chin lifting her into carseat
5:00 p.m. - home. Washed baby's hands and put her in high chair. Tried two new foods today with success - soy Italian sausage and real strawberries. Opened mail and threw away approximately 75%. Two cards from friends and family.
5:30 p.m. - crying and whining started. Unloaded and loaded dishwasher because I am awesome like that. Wrangled toddler without getting too close.
5:50 p.m. - pureed refried beans, salsa, and rice. Toddler sat by me and drew on a medical statement. Wanted to get up and down constantly. Don't remember what I ate practially, but drank my meal with a baby spoon. Made a smoothie out of soy milk, frozen cherries, and protein powder.
6:20 p.m. - husband home late. Got into argument with him (see above remark)
6:45 p.m. - discussed our long term financial strategy while he ate dinner. Boiled Gluten Free Spaghetti for dish I want puree tomorrow. ]
7:00 p.m. - convinced him to bring her upstairs for a bath. Sat with her during the bath which she usually LOVES! She bawled while I washed her hair and whined the rest of the time. While sitting by the tub I pulled off my facial bandages. Still very swollen. My pointy chin is gone. IT LOOKS SO WEIRD. Still a great deal of swelling, but may need a chin implant after my second surgery.
7:35 p.m. - Vaselined and dressed toddler. SHe played with phone while daddy and I laughed.
8:00 p.m.- made toddler's lunch for tomorrow and put into fridge.
8:15 p.m. - sat down to blog, ate a few bites of mashed potatoes, and took 1/3 the dose of liquid painkiller because removing the chin bandage, lifting the toddler, and doing too much today gave me more discomfort than I've had in days.
8:30 p.m. - debating whether to sleep in bed tonight or upstairs. Need to pick up the living room and leave money for the cleaning lady.

That is what I did today...

Update 1

Victoria had an ear infection two Mondays ago on MLK Day. I had to take off work since daycare had an inservice day and I had big plans for us. Instead I was home with a sick baby girl with a fever of 102. I got her in to the MD at 6:00 p.m. and the Doctor said it was an ear infection and gave her an antibiotic. At first they prescibed AMoxicillin, but I had to remind them that she is allergic (GEEZ! IT'S IN HER RECORDS) and then they gave her liquid Zithromycin. Friday night she came home from daycare with a cough. Over the weekend she had a runny nose, cough, didn't want to eat, and was the whiniest and crankiest I've ever sdeen her. It took all three of us- my mom, P and I (in a more limited capacity) to appease her and take care of her. I decided to drive today ( no Narcotics for a day or so) and I picked her up at school. She was so whiny and clingy and NOTHING made her happy until P got home. Now she is laying on him being rocked to sleep. Before she came into our lives I had absolutely no IDEA how much 1. kids got sick and 2. how they spread it to the rest of the family.
I really home she feels better soon.... and that we all remain healthy. Poor baby is so not herself. I am starting to get a sore throat and I just hope it is something else.
